In this unit you will investigate the implications of considering practice as research within arts disciplines by reviewing historical and theoretical perspectives and relating them to your own practice.
If you are considering this as your MA elective, please note that we do not usually recommend you simultaneously undertake this unit and the Research through Practice unit.
During the unit you will:
- Attend a series of seminars
- Review theoretical perspectives and policy documents that promote particular definitions of academic research and research as practice
- Review case-samples of practice as research
- Submit an essay that appraises the various ways in which practice can be conceived as research and locates individual practice within a field of practice-based research. (4,000 words, excluding illustrations and references).
