Melanie is from Lebanon and studied MA Fashion Media Production
What and where did you study prior to your MA at LCF?
I studied Graphic design and visual arts in the Lebanese Arts Academy, and then worked for a year as a Junior Art Director for the Middle Eastern version of L’Officiel Paris, based in Beirut.
What inspires you?
Practically everything that surrounds me. Music, a lot, and surprisingly it helps me visualise a concept through the sound and mood that it brings. I have to admit that Tumblr as well is a big source of inspiration. I can spend hours and hours looking at pictures, moodboards and get an idea from the combination of all the images my brain absorbed.
Did you undertake any internships whilst studying? And if so how do you feel about them?
I did a one-month internship while I was working on my final project, at Browns Fashion in the studio department. It was quite different from my field but I wanted to learn every aspect of the fashion industry and during this internship I felt that I’ve learnt a lot in the e-commerce field, the whole process of selling online, and how to deal with the digital platform in a fashion business.
What advice would you give someone wanting to study PG at LCF?
Studying at LCF was the best choice that I’ve ever made. First, by being in London, surrounded by innovative fashion all the time, meeting interesting people; attending several lectures and making a lot of contacts, but as well having the freedom the develop all my ideas with the help of very good tutors, that guided us all over the year.
