The local area

Wimbledon College of Arts is close to the expansive green spaces of Wimbledon Common and Richmond Park yet only 15 minutes by train to central London.

Wimbledon itself has a mix of both high street and independent shops, bars, pubs, cafes and restaurants. In nearby Tooting, the vibrant indoor market is home to street food vendors and traders selling everything from fashion, music, beauty products, arts and crafts.

Going out

Popular bars and pubs include The Castle and The Antelope, both in Tooting, and Tooting Tram and Social that has live music and open mic nights. The Leather Bottle pub is 300 years old. Food recommendations include Makiyaki for sushi, head to Waffle Jack’s diner for all-American dining including waffles and Little Brazil offers authentic Brazilian dining as well as cakes.

Tooting Common houses the largest outdoor swimming pool in the United Kingdom and plays host to a range of summer events including a folk and blues music festival and outdoor cinema.

Wimbledon has both an independent arts cinema and multiplex with IMAX screen, as well as 2 theatres.

Studios, theatres and galleries

The Grade II-listed New Wimbledon Theatre welcomes large West End tours, whilst the Polka Theatre produces children's shows. Many film and television companies, prop houses and production studios are located nearby. These include Pinewood Studios, Riverside Studios, Discovery Channel and the BBC.

"There's always an industry related talk or workshop happening at the BFI or V&A Museum. There are also excellent sources for research like the Wallace Collection and archives at the Imperial War Museum and Shakespeare's Globe." Avni Goyal - BA Production Arts for Screen.
