Sanderson: the essence of English decoration
The Designer's Vision offered a study of the influence of fashion on Knoll Textiles upholstery fabrics.
Organized by the independent curator Mary Schoeser, KnollTextiles: The Designer's Vision offered a study of the influence of fashion on Knoll Textiles upholstery fabrics.
An accompanying catalogue features an essay, "Knoll: Furnishing Textiles in the Clothing Context". This considers the significance of fashion fabrics, especially suiting, on the furnishings developed by Knoll since 1945 for both corporate and domestic interiors, taking into consideration changing working habits and shifting attitudes to the significance of work wear. Schoeser's study of the relationship between changing consumer trends and innovative responses by the textile and wallpaper industries continues through research on Arthur Sanderson & Sons, with a particular focus on its preservation and development of a globally-recognized identity, which is now the UK's longest surviving brand in its field. This research will culminate in a book published by Thames & Hudson, the publication of which is to coincide with an exhibition (curated by Schoeser with FTM's Dennis Nothdruft) at the Fashion & Textile Museum, London, from mid-March to mid-June 2010.
