Being a university student and living in London can be demanding.
It is natural to feel unhappy or stressed at times but if these feelings don’t go away quickly, or if you are finding it hard to cope with the daily stresses of life, it is important to seek help.
The Mental Health Advice Service at University of the Arts London provides information, advice and guidance to students who have an existing mental health issue or who are worried about their mental health and well-being.
Students at UAL can make an appointment to discuss any concerns they may have about mental health, or to get advice on managing a mental health issue. It is not necessary to already have a diagnosis.

Appointments and enquiries
To make an appointment with a mental health adviser, or for general enquiries, students should complete the Health Advice Request Form. Telephone enquiries to 020 7514 6251, or emails to firstname.lastname@example.org are also welcome.
Advice can also be offered by telephone or by email, if it is difficult to attend an appointment.
If you have, or if you think you have, a long term mental health condition you may also be able to access support from the Disability Service.
Urgent appointments lasting 30 minutes are available during office hours for enrolled students who need to talk to someone quickly when there is a crisis or a matter that needs urgent attention. To book an urgent appointment, please call 020 7514 6251.
Support for when things are at their worst
Sometimes, people feel low or out of control to the point that they consider self-harm or suicide. The most important thing to do in this situation is to talk to someone. Talking can help you to see things differently and decide not to act, or to access help to keep safe.

The following websites provide information about mental health and self-help resources which students may find useful.
University of the Arts London students are always encouraged to contact the Counselling, Health Advice and Chaplaincy Service for advice and information. Students are also reminded that the University is not responsible for the quality or accuracy of the information given by external organisations or the content of their websites.

Royal College of Psychiatrists
The Royal College of Psychiatrists provides information on a range of mental health conditions.
Mind provides information and advice about mental health issues. Mind’s 'Understanding' leaflets are free to read or print, and give practical information on a range of mental health issues, together with resource lists for seeking further help. The 'How to' series of leaflets, also free to read or print, cover topics such as assertiveness, dealing with panic attacks and coping with student life.
Students Against Depression
Students Against Depression is a website developed in consultation with students affected by depression, low mood or suicidal thoughts. It includes helpful stories, suggestions as well as self-help strategies for anyone feeling suicidal.
