Inclusive Arts Libraries Forum
On 16 May 2014 Library Services ran a forum for librarians with an interest in supporting access and inclusion for all in relation to our library resources and spaces.
The day was put together by Sara Osman (Assistant Access and Inclusion Librarian, UAL) and was intended to be of interest to arts librarians in particular, although in the event we had delegates from many UK HE organisations (arts and otherwise) and a significant number of delegates from museums, galleries and other institutions.
The day included presentations from arts librarians in higher education and the museum sector, the UAL Disability Service and from Sam Winston, an artist and UAL alumnus who is also dyslexic.
Pat Christie, Director of Libraries and Academic Support Services, gave a presentation on the need for a truly ‘inclusive environment and culture’.
Facilitated discussions enabled delegates to network with one another and share their experiences.
We want the discussion to continue and have set up an access and inclusion JiscMail list for this purpose.
Programme and presentations
There are links to the programme and presentations below; along with a summary of the discussions we had on the day.
We are planning how to take these activities forward, in discussion with colleagues at UAL and in other places. In the meantime, please get in touch via the mailing list or with us directly if you have suggestions.
