Enquiries are now open for EPIC 10 Weeks, 2017.

Please email presessional-applications@arts.ac.uk if you are interested in joining this course and we will guide you through the application process.

Please note that enquiries for EPIC 6 Weeks will not open until mid-June. More details about this will be available shortly.

What is EPIC?

The Exam Preparation Intensive Course (EPIC) is designed for students who cannot join Presessional due to timing reasons. EPIC focuses on preparing students for the UAL Progress Test. The Progress Test is an examination developed and used by University of the Arts London. It assesses all 4 skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. The maximum number of students per class on the EPIC course is 20. Students who obtain the required grades in the UAL Progress Test will be able to progress to their main UAL course without further language testing.

Progression is not guaranteed; students need to obtain the required grades in the final examination to advance to their main studies at UAL.

Who can take this course?

Students who have a conditional offer for an undergraduate or postgraduate course at University of the Arts London and who cannot join Presessional due to timing reasons. Students applying to join EPIC will be required to provide official evidence of why they were not able to join the corresponding Presessional course.

We offer a separate course for Foundation Diploma and Level 3 Introduction students.

You must take an IELTS for UKVI test if you want to study EPIC under a Tier 4 visa. Other internationally recognised certificates may be accepted if you will not be studying EPIC under a Tier 4 visa. If you have a certificate other than IELTS, please contact us well in advance to check whether this can be accepted as proof of English level.

Course content and assessment information

Timetable: 5 hours tuition per day, Monday to Thursday / 4 hours tuition per day on Fridays.

The Exam Preparation Intensive Course (EPIC) focuses on preparing students for the UAL Progress Test. The Progress Test is an examination developed and used by University of the Arts London. It is normally used to assess the language competence of students moving from one course to another within the university. The Progress Test assesses all 4 skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students who obtain the required grades in the examination will be able to progress to their main UAL course without further language testing. Progression is not guaranteed; students need to obtain the required grades in the final examination to advance to their main studies at UAL.

The advantage of taking EPIC compared to other examination preparation courses (e.g. IELTS) is that EPIC is designed specifically for students about to enter UAL. Materials used in teaching will reflect the subjects and disciplines taught and researched at UAL. The language and academic skills developed during EPIC will be very useful and relevant to students on UAL courses.

Students on this course will be able to get to know the University during their studies by using the libraries and virtual learning facilities and by visiting college sites and exhibitions of art, design, fashion and communications-related work.
