Information for Staff
The University holds its Awards Ceremonies each year and we are expecting over 4,000 students at this summer’s ceremonies, to be held at the Royal Festival Hall.
Students very much appreciate all the hard work staff have done to assist them with their studies and therefore your attendance at Graduation is highly valued.
You may wish to acquaint yourself with the facts about graduation just in case you have any queries from your students so please read the Graduation FAQs in the first instance.
If you'd like to help with marshalling on the day, email in June to the awards team with your availability firstname.lastname@example.org
Dates and times can be found on the Dates, Times & Ceremonies page so please check this for your ceremony time(s).

Collecting your robe
You can collect your robe from ‘The 3rd Floor Function room’ which is located on the ‘Blue’ side of the building on Level 3 (if you are not sure where to go, just ask one of the marshals on the day). Please note this is a change from previous years. Tea and coffee will be available close to the robing room and if you need to leave luggage etc, there is a cloakroom on the Lower Ground Floor.
Please note, this is a formal occasion so it is expected that you attend in suitable dress but remember that it can get very hot on the stage especially as you will be wearing a gown. You may also find it useful to bring some pins/hair clips with you to attach your gown and hat.
On the day
Once you have booked your robe, you will be sent an email from Ede and Ravenscroft to give you your booking reference. You need to arrive at least an hour before your ceremony so that there is enough time for you to collect your robe, have some refreshments and join the procession. Once you have your gown and have enjoyed the refreshments, please make your way up the stairs to Level 4 where you will join the academic processions.
The ceremonies last between one and a half and two hours commencing with the speeches and Honorary Awards followed by the student awards. Finally, staff and students who have been awarded prizes will be acknowledged and the student speaker will make a short speech recognising their time at UAL.
After the ceremony, you are welcome to join graduates and their guests in the reception areas where light refreshments will be served. All robes should be returned to the Sunley Pavilion before you leave the Southbank Centre.
