Student Advice and Guidance
Student Advice and Guidance Services staff (Student Advisers) deal directly with students who visit our offices. If the Student Adviser cannot help directly then they will help to find the correct support for the student.
Student Advisers have a particular focus on assisting students who might require financial or immigration advice. This means that these staff will often contact other departments within the Colleges and University on behalf of students.
There are two Senior Student Advisers, normally based in the Student Centre at High Holborn, who have a specific specialist and support role. One has a student finance and funding remit. Contact ext. 6252 or email student.advisers@arts.ac.uk
The other Adviser has an immigration and international focus - for more details click here.
The Senior Student Advisers usually see students by appointment only, as this work often requires complex information and an understanding of the relevant government rules and regulations.
The work of the advice team often relates to practical and time-bound scenarios that a student may have to decide or act upon in order to get to the next part of their studies.
There are often no immediate solutions to financial and immigration issues, only the opportunity to review the way situations have occurred, or to provide choices on how situations may be managed differently, or to suggest actions that may be required.
Student Advisers will often speak to teaching and administrative staff about clarifying a student's position related to external agencies. When the advisers request specific information or evidence, it is normally to ensure that the best representation can be made on a student's behalf.
