What is Counselling?
What is Counselling?
Counselling is an active process designed to give you time, space and encouragement to explore and better understand what is going on for you. The counsellor's role is to provide you with a secure framework in which to reflect upon your circumstances.
Students may talk to a counsellor about anything at all which is concerning them, whether it is affecting their studies or not. Some of the most common issues that students bring to counselling can be found under our Self-Help Information section.
If you are not feeling yourself or you are feeling troubled by or preoccupied with something, you do not need to struggle alone. It may be helpful to speak to a counsellor, someone who is specially trained to listen and to help you with whatever is concerning you.
Receiving counselling is different from receiving advice. The counsellor will not offer advice but will help you to increase your awareness of your situation and the choices that are open to you.
The service we offer:
The University of the Arts London offers a free, confidential counselling service to all students. Students can see a counsellor at High Holborn or at their college, and all appointments are held in a comfortable and private setting. As well as individual counselling, the service offers group work, and has a range of leaflets and information which is available to students.
If you are a member of staff and are seeking counselling, please see Human Resources' web page on the Employee Assistance Helpline.
