Special Arrangements

Special Arrangements

Applications, open days and interviews

The College Disability Representative or the Disability Team can help you organise any special arrangements for a College Open Day or extra support for an interview. We will be happy to talk with you in confidence about arrangements we can make to ensure you are supported in your studies.

Accommodation

The Housing Services department offers information on our Halls of Residence and advice on finding and living in privately rented accommodation. Some rooms in the University managed accommodation are accessible for wheelchair users and those with mobility problems. We are always willing to consider making reasonable adjustments to accommodate the needs of disabled residents.

For more information, visit the Housing Services website or contact them on tel: 020 7514 6240 or at accommodation@arts.ac.uk

Access at our Colleges

We realise that access to some of our buildings can be difficult. If you are concerned about the buildings you want to study in, we encourage you to make an access visit to the site. Please contact your Course Director, the college disability representative or the disability team. We will do everything reasonably possible to meet your needs.

Travel

Travelling in and around London can be expensive and many of the buses and trains are not fully accessible. You can get details of accessible transport in London from the Transport for London Customer Services team, who are trained to answer queries from disabled customers. Call 020 7222 5600 or visit the Transport for London website

If you have severe mobility problems and travel either as a car driver or passenger you can apply for a Blue (formerly Orange) Badge. This scheme provides a national arrangement of parking concessions for disabled people. The main purpose of the Scheme is to allow disabled and blind people to park closer to their destination. To apply for a Blue Badge, contact your local council.

A Freedom Pass gives free travel on London's public transport for disabled, blind and older London residents. The pass is paid for by your local council and is available from your Post Office or Town Hall. For further information you can ring 020 79349633 or visit the Freedom Pass website

State benefits for disabled students

As a disabled student, you may be entitled to claim state benefits to pay for extra help because of your disability or to help you with the cost of living. The rules around benefits are complex. If you need to know how studying may affect your benefits, either contact the Student Adviser at your College or call 020 7514 6250 or email student.advisers@arts.ac.uk You may also like to contact the Disability Benefits Helpline on 08457 123 456 or visit the Department of Works and Pensions website
