Work Placements
Unpaid placements should be for no longer than 4 weeks and you can expect the employer to provide training, dedicated supervison, flexible hours and to cover your travel expenses. Please remember this is your opportunity to gain experience, to choose the duties you are happy to undertake and that you shouldn't feel pressurised to undertake any duties you feel unhappy about.
Paid Placements if you are asked to commit to a placement of more than 4 weeks, or find that the employer requires you to work specified hours or requires you to undertake specific duties, then you can expect the employer to pay you for your time at at least the National Minimum Wage of £5.80 per hour.

Applications most employers will ask you to send a CV with your application. It also a really good idea to include a covering letter explaining why you are applying for the work placement and what you hope to gain from the experience. Creative Careers would also encourage you to treat your work placement application just like you would a job application - be professional, be punctual, contact the company if you need to cancel or are running late for appointments etc. Making a good impression at work placement will only increase your chance of future employment!

Employers offering work experience placements are also expected to comply with UK equal opportunities, employment and health and safety and legislation. JRC Imports Ltd is a design-led import business supplying fabric from Turkey and the Far East to garment manufacturers and retailers in the UK and overseas. The company specialises in supplying prints to mass market high street stores such as Top Shop, New Look, River Island, Debenhams and Next. The business has grown quickly since being established by Tony Coulston in 2003 and now employs eight people at offices in Kentish Town.
Length of placement: 4 weeks

You will have the opportunity to work alongside our Design Manager and Design Assistant to find out all about life in our busy design studio. We will try to give you a variety of experience such as making hangers, scanning, creating design and colour libraries and archive filing, recolouring some JRC designs and working on customer trend boards/special packs. This placement would benefit a Textile Designer preferably with experience of Photoshop, attention to detail, accurate cutting and neat handwriting.

MILLETRE' LTD
Founded by sisters Valentina and Silvia Cangiano in the September 2008, Milletre is based on the principal ‘Made in Italy’ and offers the best of well known and international designers manufactured in the girls country of origin. The collections stocked are not easily found in London or the UK, and all the designers they represent they choose for the fine quality and craftsmanship of Italian production. The sisters are constantly scouting and researching for new labels and exclusive pieces to bring to their clientele who they like to present with a ‘style not just a brand’.

Gallery Assistant Internship Position

SILVINAMAESTRO is a new luxury label. The designer, Silvina , graduated from Central Saint Martins and has worked in the industry for several years companies like Givenchy in Paris where she assisted designer Riccardo Tisci, in Emilio de la Morena and Alexander McQueen amongst others. There is general assisting work on shoots. Camera assisting - I use a canon 7d so student can become familiar with said camera and a large range of lenses, often working on fun projects. Editing etc.

And importantly coming up is London fashion week, where I have a large scale installation to make and install. So sculptural ability and interest in installation/soundscape is a plus.

Experience gained: Acting as our online brand guardian, you will develop a thorough understanding of social media and networking sites, ensuring that our presence on Facebook/Linkedin/Twitter and Blog is constantly active and encourages SEO/SMO. You will gain an awareness of advertising and media management, learn more about the different advertising avenues we use and create copy for various job roles for both online and offline media. This role will also develop your mac skills and give you your first step into the digital and creative markets, whilst working within a friendly and energetic team.
You will be passionate about online and digital media and be familiar with media communication channels. Innovative and motivated, you will be able to spot new ways to communicate with our online audience and help to maximise exposure for our brand. IT skills are required, including working knowledge of social media, Web 3.0, web browsers, macs and other forms of digital communication.

This placement would benefit a graduate who is keen to run their own creative business but is yet unsure of what exactly they'd like to do and is hands on, organized and enjoys varied duties. There is potential for international travel to trade fairs and specific selling trips to regions of the world.
Marketing and PR / Design or Fashion Business graduate with knowledge of Multimedia, Web Design or Graphic Design with relevant work experience required.
Coming up with creative ideas to promote the brand, writing press releases. Getting in touch with press on up and coming stories. Creating ideas for competitions and creating hype around the brand through tools like facebook, twitter, newsletters and blogs. Management of the ecommerce site. Co –ordinate sales and liase with buyers from prestigious department stores and boutiques worldwide. Working closely with all stockists and buyers to coordinate the orders and relevant paperwork for the accounts team. Responsible for all buying appointments and participation at trade shows. Identify, update and support development of the sales department and develop sales strategies. Working with the production team on liaising order quantities and production orders, early deliveries, sample delivery. Day to day account / stock management and paperwork duties.
Confident with a friendly phone manner and are well presented. Strong IT skills. Awareness of the creative consumer and the creative industry and be educated in marketing, PR and social network strategies. New media interest and capabilities- blogs, podcasts, videos, social media and all apple programmes. Extensive use of MAC computers and programmes a must. It would suit someone who is innovative, passionate and creative while enjoying freedom with regards to set briefs. You must be self motivated. Independent book and literary magazine publisher.
Length of placement: 12 weeks

Experience gained: The graduate will develop an understanding of the creative and visual requirements of a literary publisher. Experience will range from the design, art direction and promotion of a magazine. They will be involved in bespoke visual projects, research and design for literary books. They will also be exposed to the digital strategy of a developing publishing house.
Graphic design graduate.
Main duties will consist of assisting the Artistic Director with a variety of creative tasks. The intern will produce designs and illustrations for promotional items across the group in accordance with set brand guidelines. They will be requested to search for and create imagery for the magazine. If skills are developed enough, the intern will also have the opportunity to work on cover designs for the two literary book imprints.
