Wrapping Paper Design Competition

We are looking for applications from current UAL students for a design that can be made in to wrapping paper for our Christmas pop-up shop this December. The three-day shop is part of the Creative Outlet exhibition in the UAL Showroom which sells and showcases artworks and products from UAL grads and students in the lead up to Christmas.

The winning designer will be given £200 in Selfridges vouchers and see their design printed on wrapping paper which will be given out free to all our customers during the pop-up shop. The UAL Showroom team will oversee all costs and production of the chosen designs which will be transformed into 75gsm uncoated colour A2 sheets of wrapping paper.

The designs entered must be your own original artwork, of which you hold and will maintain the copyright to. The intellectual property of designs submitted but not selected will remain entirely with the students who created them.

Designs should be appealing to the general public and may be adapted by UAL Showroom for increased suitability in discussion with the entrant. If applicable the winning design may also be used across other marketing materials in the promotion of the pop-up shop (such as window vinyl or posters).

Entries will be judged on their originality, creativity, public appeal and their ability to capture the spirit of Christmas.


We are looking for creative, contemporary, simple designs that celebrate the upcoming winter festivities. This can either be as a single motif (which can later be repeated) or you can submit the full A2 page design. Images can include: illustration; graphics; photography; painting, but must be supplied in digital format. You can submit up to three different designs.

Designs should be suitable and appeal to the general public and represent the quality, creativity and diversity of UAL.

Things to consider:

  • Text, slogans or festive wishes alongside any motive
  • Background colour to the wrapping paper
  • Designs, shapes and colours that compliment the brand identity of UAL
