Phase Four 2011/12
SICOM is now entering its implementation phase. Colleges will introduce the SICOM staffing model to support programmes (clusters of courses) in 2012 (Summary College Programmes (PDF)). The Staffing Model (PDF) is a team approach to supporting a programme with standardised roles and job descriptions for the three staff groups. Job descriptions for the team, which will be used across the University, can be found at this link - Job Descriptions. The College Programmes (pdf) and staffing around the Programmes as of May 2012.
Job Descriptions
Neil Henderson joined the SICOM Programme in September 2011 to support colleges implementing the changes, taking the lead with the academic roles and collaborating closely with the Registry Services Review Project and the Technicians Review. Details for implementation can be found at Project Implementation, and for the two projects at:
Registry Services Project (pdf)
Technician Review Report (pdf)
During 2011/12 we will also publish guidance on Course Committees for Programmes (link to follow in October 2011) and continue the development of an evaluation strategy in consultation with the trade unions and staff representatives. The aim is to have an evaluation framework in place for next summer with the SICOM programme’s planned closure.

The Background of SICOM
SICOM was started as an exploratory project in 2008 and launched as a Change Programme in 2009. The recommendations from the initial exploratory report (2009) have been developed over the last couple of years. Details of the three earlier Phases of SICOM are given at the link above.
