Biography

After studying Fine Art (Northumbria University), Visual Culture (Middlesex University) and Philosophy (CRMEP, Kingston University), Yaiza Hernández Velázquez worked for over a decade in contemporary art institutions. Among other things, she was Head of Public Programmes at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona– MACBA, director of CENDEAC (Murcia) and curator at CAAM (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria). 

Research interests

Exhibition studies, radical museology, critical theory, institutional studies, archival practices, modern european philosophy.

Research statement

My research tends to centre around the exhibition in its widest sense and its institutional settings as sites of political and philosophical import. I am particularly interested in exhibitionary and institutional models that understand themselves (even if no one else does) as prefiguring, supporting or representing radical social change.
