Beyond Participation: the use of participatory photographic methodologies in peer-led therapeutic environments by those accessing mental health services
London College of Communication
In an era of severe challenges to NHS finances, my research addresses the dearth in therapeutic arts programmes delivered to people experiencing mental health issues. The government expects the NHS to initiate ‘recovery colleges’ to support these people, without providing extra funding.
I have frequently worked amongst marginalised communities who use peer support to effectively sustain their recovery. For my research, I will deliver participatory photography programmes at six or more UK recovery colleges. My aim is to connect these groups, using virtual technologies, thereby establishing a sustainable peer support network and a resource outside of the institution.
