Strategies of resistance in female performance practice and activism in the context of cognitive capitalism and new social media

Camberwell, Chelsea and Wimbledon (CCW)

In my practice-based research I explore strategies of resistance in contemporary female performance practice. I investigate how techniques of protest developed by current feminist activist movements might be applied in a contemporary performance art practice in order to critique power and hierarchy structures as well as the conditions of contemporary art production. I look into the links between feminist protest and activist movements and Post-Cold war and present day practicing female artists and groups by focusing on works by e.g. the Guerrilla Girls, Pussy Riot, Sharon Hayes, as well as my own practice as a female performance artist.
