Physical Composition: Investigating the notion of the physical as a compositional tool by defining the term and its use through creative practice
London College of Communication
This practice-based research investigates the overlap between ‘classical’ instrumental practice and sound arts practice to identify and give criticality to the notion of the physical: as a compositional device and as a critical focus that enables a comparative discussion of both disciplines. In conflating practices, I research the body’s potential as a point of articulation. My sound practice consciously and intuitively employs physical elements as compositional processes with this research investigating what constitutes the physical in physical composition; what its potential is as a compositional technique and the possibilities of investigating sound arts practice in terms of physicality.
