Archiving your Course Site

In Blackboard 8 there are two ways to create a copy of your course site: Export course and Archive course.

Export Course

Export Course creates a package of the course content that can later be imported into Blackboard. Exporting a course creates a copy of the content and does not include any user interactions. You should use the export course functionality if you want to save and reuse the content of the course site at a later date in Blackboard.

Export packages are downloaded as compressed .ZIP files that can be re-imported into Blackboard.

From the Control Panel:

  1. Click on the Export Course link in the Course Options section. Course Options
  2. Click Export from the Action Bar of the Export / Archive Manager page. Action bar
  3. Choose the areas you want to export by clicking the appropriate check boxes. Export course dialogue
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button.
  5. When the export process is complete you will receive an email indicating that the file is ready. You should now open the Export / Archive Manager page in the Blackboard (see step 1) and download the zip to your computer. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the OK button. Download zip

Archive Course

Archive Course is useful to maintain a record of a Course after it has been taught. Use the archive course functionality to keep a record of what happened in a course site when it was used. Archive Course creates a permanent record of a course site. An archive of a course unlike an export includes all of the content from the course site as well as the user information and interactions.

Archived courses are saved as .ZIP files. These zip files can be downloaded and saved

From the Control Panel:

  1. Click on the Archive Course link in the Course Options section. Course Options
  2. Click Archive from the Action Bar of the Export / Archive Manager page. Action bar
  3. Click in the Include Grade Center History check box if required for the archive. Select Submit to archive the course contents. Archive course dialogue
  4. When the archive process is complete you will receive an email indicating that the file is ready. You should now open the Export / Archive Manager page in the Blackboard (see step 1) and download the zip to your computer. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the OK button. Download zip
