How do I add announcements to my course site?

The Announcements tool allows important messages to be displayed on the entry page of each Blackboard course site, creating an online notice board. Announcements can be easily updated, and they can be emailed to all course participants.

Announcements is a communications tool that provides a way to get time-sensitive information to students without needing to send an e-mail. Announcements will appear on the Blackboard Start Page once a user logs into Blackboard, as well as in the course site. Announcements are displayed as a list with the most recent announcements appearing first.

Creating an Announcement

  1. Click on the Control Panel in the left hand panel. Control Panel Button

  3. Click on the Add Announcement button. Add Announcement Button
    1. Announcement Information

      1. Enter a Subject: in the text field.
      2. Enter the full message in the Message: text field. Announcement Information dialogue
    2. Options

      1. Select No to create an Announcement that will not appear permanently.
      2. Select Yes to create a permanent Announcement. The new Announcement is automatically displayed after the time and date it is created.
      3. There is no start or end date set for this Announcement unless the Display After and/or Display Until option is selected. Use these options if you want to set the dates for the announcement to be visible. Announcement Options dialogue
    3. Course/Organisation Link

      1. To create a link from the Announcement to a specific page in your Course/Organisation, click Browse. Choose the location to which you want to link. Click Submit. Course Link dialogue
    4. Email Announcement

      1. Select this if you want this Announcement to be emailed to everyone with access to the Course/Organisation. Email Announcement checkbox
    5. Submit

      1. Click Submit to finish. You will see a receipt to confirm your choices. Click OK.
      2. Click Cancel to quit. Nothing will have saved. Submit dialogue

Modifying an Announcement

  1. Click on the Control Panel in the left hand panel. Control Panel Button

  3. Click Modify. Located to the right of the Announcement to be modified.
  4. Modify Button
    1. Make the relevant changes to the announcement.
    2. Click Submit to add the modified Announcement.

Removing an Announcement

  1. Click on the Control Panel in the left hand panel. Control Panel Button

  3. Click Remove. Located to the right of the Announcement to be removed.

Multiple Sites Announcement Tool

The multiple site announcement tool is a feature that allows course teams to add the same announcement to one or more course sites. This tool provides a convenient method for placing the same announcement on multiple course sites saving time and duplication of effort.

It is important to double check that only the course sites to receive the announcements are selected when using this tool. The following section describes how to use the multiple site announcement tool.

  1. Click on the Communication in the left hand panel. Communication link

    1. Subject

      1. Enter a Subject: in the text field. Subject dialogue
    2. Announcement

      1. Enter the full message in the Announcement: text field. Announcement text field
    3. Permanent

      1. Select Yes or No to make the announcement permanent. Select Permanent radio buttons
    4. Please select the Course(s)/Organisation(s) you wish to post your announcement to.

      1. Select the Course(s)/Organisation(s) you wish to post your announcement to. Select Organisation check boxes
    5. Submit

      1. Click Submit to finish. You will see a receipt to confirm your choices. Click OK.
      2. Click Cancel to quit. Nothing will have saved. Submit dialogue
