From fashion and theatre design to textiles and illustration the collections of the University reflect the diversity of visual arts from the 1400s until the present day. The Archives and Special Collections Centre and the six colleges that form the University hold a remarkable range of archives and special collections that reflect art and design and their unique specialisms relevant to a wide range of disciplines that embody the vision of the University:

"to be recognised as one of the foremost institutions in the world for learning, practice, research and development in arts, design and communication".

Links for the Archives and Special Collections Centre and the six colleges are below, listing contacts and collection information. We have recently produced a subject indexed guide to all the collections. Archives and Special Collections Guide (PDF 2MB)

Alongside archive collections relating to the history of the colleges and work of alumni collections include: the thorold dickinson collection; a vast selection of Artists' books [Chelsea, Camberwell and LCC]; international wool secretariat photographs [Woolmark Company Photographs]; the walter crane collection; the talwin morris collection; the fine art, prints and drawings collection; and the stanley kubrick archive.

We aim to make catalogues as widely available as possible and collection level descriptions for many of the holdings can be found on the AIM25 website and on the Archives Hub (Archives and Special Collections Centre Only).

Images of some of the collections at LCF, CSM and University Archives & Special Collections Centre can be found on the Visual Arts Data Service [VADS] website.

New additions and other news can be found on our Collection news page.

The general public are welcome to use our resources, however you may need to make an appointment. Check with the contact email address or phone number of the site at which you wish to view items before you visit in order to avoid disappointment.
