Visiting the archive

The Archives and Special Collections Centre is based at the London College of Communication at Elephant and Castle and is open to University staff, students of all Universities and higher education and the public. We advise potential visitors to book an appointment to avoid disappointment (as we do get busy) and so that we can best prepare for your visit.

We are open to the public Tuesday-Friday 1-5pm.

Planning your visit

  • Please contact us to make an appointment.

  • We shall discuss your research needs with you, and any other issues, in order that you get the most out of your visit. Please note we have disabled access to the Centre and parking.

  • Before attending please read our guidelines on handling materials and our search room rules. Please note that all visitors are required to comply with our rules. Additional advice on handling will be provided as necessary when you visit.

  • On the day you visit please bring: a pencil for note taking; a form of personal identification or your University of the Arts ID card; and cash for copying charges (restrictions apply). For details on copyright and use please click here.

  • On arriving at the London College of Communication please report to reception who will advise us of your arrival.

How to find us

The Centre is easily accessible by public transport.

By Train: The Elephant and Castle site is connected by Thameslink trains from Blackfriars. Click here for a map of rail connecitons or click here for the stations web pages.

By Underground: Both the Bakerloo and Northern Lines stop at Elephant and Castle. Follow the signs on the underpass to London College of Printing (our former name). The College is opposite the shopping centre on the same side of the road as the Metropolitan Tabernacle, just a minutes walk away. Click here for maps provided by Transport for London.

By Bus: Elephant and Castle is extremely well provided for with buses including: 1, 12, 35, 40, 45, 53, 63, 68, 100, 133, 148, 155, 168, 171, 172, 176, 188, 322, 188, 322, 333, 343, 344, 360, 363, 453, 468, C10, P5. Click for a map of bus connections for Elephant and Castle.
