LLR collects, holds and processes data about its users in order to provide them with services and information. The data is held and processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
The eight Data Protection Principles as stated in the Act are:
1. Personal data shall be fairly and lawfully obtained and processed.
2. Personal data shall be held for specified and lawful purposes, and the processing of data must not be incompatible with the specified purpose.
3. Personal data must be adequate, relevant and not excessive in relation to the specified purpose.
4. Personal data must be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date.
5. Personal data should not be kept for longer than is necessary for the specified purpose.
6. Personal data must be processed in accordance with the rights of data subjects.
7. Appropriate security, technical and organisational measures must be taken against accidental loss, destruction of, or damage to, personal data.
8. Personal data must not be transferred to a country outside the European Economic Area unless that country operates an adequate level of protection for the rights of data subjects in relation to the processing of personal data.
Users have the right to know what personal data LLR holds about them, and to ask for it to be corrected if it is inaccurate. If a user wishes to see the data held on them by LLR, they should ask a member of a LLR staff. They will be asked for identification, since no one may see another person's data, and a record will be made of their request. They will be given a contact name. The data will be provided to them as soon as possible, and at the latest within 40 days, the limit laid down by the Act.
