Ron Herrema is a freelance composer of music, sound and image, and is a Special Lecturer on BA (Hons) Sound Arts and Design at London College of Communication.

Ron received his PhD in composition from Michigan State University and composes acoustic and electroacoustic music, still and moving image, and audiovisual iPhone apps. He has a particular (but not exclusive) affinity for generative/algorithmic techniques in his creative work, which has recently included improvisation.

Ron has taught music and sonic arts at a range of universities in the UK and US. He also teaches creative technologies for a private educational enterprise and offers workshops in London.

Ron has published two solo CDs – ‘Changing Weights’ and ‘Music for Being’ – and has also published in the journals Digital Creativity and Visual Studies. His compositions have been performed and broadcast in concerts throughout North America and Europe, as well as in South America, Australia and Singapore. He produced, and wrote the music for, the short documentary film 'Acoustic Shadows', winner of the 2012 48Hour DocFilm Competition.

In 2008 he began his study of Deep Listening and has subsequently been involved as a performer in Ximena Alarcón's Migratory Band, as well as in the 4 4 Flow improvising ensemble. Other recent activities include the release of two iPhone apps (Trespass and Dancing Wu Wei), the production of an interactive sound and image installation for the Tate Britain, and taking first prize in the Hack The Space event at the Tate Modern in London.
