Biography

Peter Matthews is a lecturer on BA (Hons) Film Practice at London College of Communication, joining LCC in 2006 to teach on the Contextual Studies and dissertation units.

Growing up in Canada, Peter earned a BA and MA in English Literature from McMaster University.

Before LCC, Peter taught at Middlesex University and at the British Film Institute on their Certificate in Film Journalism course.

For over 20 years Peter has maintained a professional practice of film criticism. His feature articles and reviews appear regularly in Sight & Sound magazine and he has contributed numerous essays to The Criterion Collection.

Peter's eclectic research interests range from cinephilia and melodrama to questions of spirituality in film and exploring the link between cinema, visionary experience and psychosis.
