Biography
Dr. Salomé Voegelin is a Reader in Sound Arts and a Course Tutor for MA Sound Arts and BA (Hons) Sound Arts and Design at London College of Communication.
She is a member of the Centre for Creative Research in Sound Arts Practice (CRiSAP) based at the College and is involved in both postgraduate teaching and PhD supervision.
Salomé is an artist and writer and her practice covers phonography writing, composition and voice. Her current research explores reality and possibility, reference and fiction of identity and place through sound. She is the author of Listening to Noise and Silence: Towards a Philosophy of Sound Art, Continuum, NY, 2010 and other written work includes "Ethics of Listening" in the Journal of Sonic Studies, Vol. 2, 2012 and a chapter on durational radio for the forthcoming book Magic Spaces - 25 years of Kunstradio, Austria. Her composition Moving Stones is part of the award-winning compilation Autumn Leaves by Gruenrekorder.
Most recently, Salomé’s work has been included in SOUNDWORKS at the Institute for Contemporary Arts London (ICA) and she presented her textual fieldwork at "In the Field" at the British Library. Her blog has writings on the experience of listening to the everyday.
"It is this research and practice that influences the teaching and learning on the MA Sound Arts course, enabling artists and musicians from a variety of backgrounds to do things with sound in their own way but informed by a contemporary sonic output.
"The aim is to facilitate each student’s individual development while fostering contextual and conceptual awareness and focusing on the sensorial material of sound itself too.
"The relationship between reflection and practice is an essential feature of the course as it aims to encourage students to understand writing, thinking, listening and composing, making sound art work, as part of one integrated practice."
