Biography

Chris Petter is Associate Dean of Screen at London College of Communication, providing academic leadership and management for a range of courses within the Screen School.

His creative practice is based on sound and music composition, recording, mixing and performance. Working in the creative industries for many years as a musician and trombone player, he has featured on many recorded works with artists such as Aswad, Steel Pulse, Lee Perry, Mad Professor, Zion Train, On U Sounds, Morcheeba, Stereo MC’s, The Bluetones, Ruts DC, and Dreadzone.

Chris has also toured extensively and performed on stages from Glastonbury to Tokyo, TV shows like Top of the Pops and BBC Radio sessions for John Peel and Andy Kershaw.

As a composer Chris has recorded, produced and mixed many albums (Conscious Sounds, Centry, Dub Specialists, Love Grocer) and is particularly interested in the use of live audio mixing techniques as a creative tool. He has created commercial sound design work for multi-media with clients such as the BBC, Hewlett Packard and MTV, and has designed sensor based interactive audio installations for many live events and exhibitions.

Chris has worked in sound arts and design education for 16 years, teaching Sonic Arts at Middlesex University and Creative Sound Design at Ravensbourne, and previously led the BA (Hons) Sound Arts and Design course at LCC for 10 years.

Chris has held External Examiner posts for Sussex University and City University and is currently an External Examiner for London College of Music, University of West London.

I have a keen interest in all aspects of teaching and learning within the sound arts, supporting students to develop the techniques, approaches and the critical thinking that will allow them to build their own creative voice in the early stages of their careers."
