Karla Pett – MA Publishing
Karla Pett studied MA Publishing at London College of Communication. She has gone on to work for Octopus Books and has worked with a broad range of authors from musician Ed Sheeran to Warren Elsmore who made a book on his LEGO creations.
What did you study at LCC and what year did you graduate?
MA Publishing (Books).
Where are you from in the world?
What are your fondest memories of LCC?
Meeting so many amazing people; and friends that I’ve kept since.
What are you working at the moment?
I’m Marketing Manager at Octopus Books.
Name three things you couldn't be creative without:
Lots of energy, positivity and design skills.
If you could collaborate creatively with anybody in the world who would it be?
I’d love to have a creative meeting with John Lassiter! Which is sort of cheating, as it’s not collaborating.
What drives you to succeed?
I love learning; if I wasn’t constantly learning and challenged I’d stop. I always want to try new things and see how far something can go.
What three words would you use to best describe LCC?
Open, friendly and engaging.
What piece of advice would you give to new students?
Don’t be afraid to try! You never know until you do and working hard opens more doors than ever.
Where in London do you go when you need a little inspiration?
Victoria Embankment, if I’m starting from scratch I’ll go there and just walk along the river. But I also love Soho; dirty, disgusting, colourful, vibrant, unmistakable Soho.
