After studying an MA in Media, Communications and Critical Practice at LCC, Chris is hoping to start a career in the digital music industry.

Where are you from in the world?

Seattle, WA, USA.

Why did you choose to study this course and why LCC?

After finishing my BA in Japanese and Religion, I wanted to learn more about the media industry. I searched for media programs that focused on both theory and practice. Out of the universities I researched, I was drawn to LCC because of their emphasis on hands on learning.

And what’s your favourite thing about LCC now?

My favourite thing about studying at LCC is the incredibly creative student body. I love walking into school and seeing the different courses work being installed and displayed in the foyer. I am continuously impressed with what the LCC student body creates.

What’s the most interesting project you’ve worked on through your course so far?

Each project I’ve worked on has been satisfying for different reasons. We had many opportunities to collaborate with both students and outside organizations.

However, the most challenging and rewarding project was writing my thesis about new media’s influence on live music. Spending six months researching and writing taught me a lot about the topic, but also about how to effectively conduct a research project.

What important piece of advice would you give to students thinking of studying this course?

What helped me the most in this course was knowing what I wanted to study from the beginning. This course allows you to direct your studies towards any topic, so it is important to understand what interests you the most and to incorporate that in each assignment.

What are you hoping to achieve after you graduate?

My goals after graduating are to start a career in the digital music industry. I am interested in audience/artist relations as well as new methods for accessing live and recorded music.
