Katrina Schollenberger – BA (Hons) Journalism

Katrina from Washington D.C studied BA (Hons) Journalism at LCC and graduated in 2015. Katrina now works in digital marketing for The Lady Magazine.

How would you describe your practice?

Journalist & digital marketing consultant.

Where are you from in the world?

Washington D.C, United States.

Why did you choose to study Journalism and why LCC?

I’ve always been an exceptionally curious person with a flair for the written word and so it seemed like a suitable career path! I heard LCC had one of the best journalism courses around, so I was thrilled to be accepted and study there.

What is the most important thing you learned while studying on your course?

Condensing the way I write and speak as you have a limited time to grab and keep somebodies attention.

How has the course helped you be where you are today?

It helped me get an editorial internship at a magazine, which then lead to a job.

What piece of advice would you give to new students?

Don't be afraid to speak to people that aren’t on your course! You never know who you're going to meet.

Where are you working at the moment and what are some recent interesting projects you’ve worked on?

I’m working at The Lady Magazine, Britain’s longest running women’s weekly, running their digital marketing department. Aside from my job, I've been working on a vlog. It's rather basic right now, but I'd really like to find the time to develop it.

Name three things you couldn't be creative without:

Music, space, reading the news.

If you could work with any client in the world, who would it be and what would you want to work on?

Probably VICE, I'd love present on their YouTube channel, or their new TV channel Viceland. Or even have my own investigative documentary series.

What drives you to succeed?

Wanting to be the best I could possibly be in my field.

Where in London do you (or did you used to) go when you need a little inspiration?

Battersea Bridge.

What are your future plans and ambitions?

I see myself ending back up in America for a few years, perhaps New York or back to D.C. I’d also like to properly pursue my broadcasting dreams!
