Biography

Victoria Ahrens is a Senior Lecturer on Graduate Diploma Photography at London College of Communication. She teaches on all of the BA and MA Photography and Photojournalism courses at London College of Communication and is an Associate Lecturer at University of the Arts London.

Victoria has worked as an Associate Lecturer at University of the Arts London since 2007, teaching and supporting students on Fine Art courses at Camberwell, Chelsea and London College of Communication. She is currently working with all the BA and MA Photography and Photojournalism courses at London College of Communication as part of the Academic Support team, while also teaching occasionally as a contextual studies tutor and delivering workshops on historic photographic processes.

Victoria has worked as a visiting artist on the MA Printmaking course at Camberwell, and the BA (Hons) Print Media courses at Brighton and Wimbledon College of Art, as well as Kulturama Photography course in Stockholm, Sweden.

Victoria completed her Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded PhD in Photographic Practice and Theory at Birkbeck College, University of London in 2017, during which she explored notions of the embodied encounter with landscapes of trauma and memory. This meant creating photo etchings and photograms in situ on the river Parana in Argentina.

She has exhibited her work widely both in the UK and Internationally, with recent shows in the TJ Boulting Gallery in London; Galerie Fleur in Kyoto, Japan; Hangzhou Academy of Art, China; Balzac’s Print Rooms in Paris and Studio Maragnone in Florence, Italy.

Victoria has won a number of prizes including the Clifford Chance Purchase Prize, the Printmaker’s Council Award, and the Celeste Photography Prize in 2013. Her work has been published in Printmaking Today on two occasions.

She has been selected for the IMPACT Print conference and exhibition in Santander this year, as well as being invited to participate in the Print Biennial in Douro, Portugal 2018 and the Royal Academy Summer show.

Victoria is currently working on an extended research and photographic project with the International Association of Photography and Theory based in Nicosia, Cyprus with an exhibition there in November 2018.
