Biography

Anthony Clavane is an award-winning sportswriter, and an Associate Lecturer for the BA (Hons) Sports Journalism course at London College of Communication.

Anthony’s book 'Promised Land: A Northern Love Story' won both the Football Book of the Year and the Sports Book of the Year in 2011. A former teacher, he writes on sport for the Sunday Mirror, and contributes to other publications including The New Statesman.

A life-long Leeds United supporter, Anthony’s second book ‘Does Your Rabbi Know You’re Here?’ was also widely praised, and his latest is entitled ‘A Yorkshire Tragedy: The Rise and Fall of a Sporting Powerhouse’. His other work includes the stage dramas ‘Playing The Joker’, about rugby league commentator Eddie Waring, and ‘Leeds Lads’, about the people of Leeds past and present.

Anthony studied history at the University of Sussex, learnt his trade as a journalist with the East Anglian Daily Times, and has also worked for the Independent. He teaches practical skills on the BA (Hons) Sports Journalism course at LCC.
