In today’s climate of constant rolling news, it is important for journalists to seek out news stories that are both relevant and interesting to the reader.

This three-day course will examine the process behind developing a news story from start to finish. Aimed at those looking to break into the fast-paced world of news journalism and reporters who would like to refine their skills, the course is designed to sharpen writing skills and develop research techniques.

Through role-play you will learn how to get the most from your interviews whilst ensuring you are complaint with media law. The tutor will introduce you to potential pitfalls and how be aware of influences on your writing, by demonstrating procedures and techniques. Through a critical study of news stories you will expand your appreciation of foreign news, compared with home-based stories.

Tutor information

After 37 years working in local newspapers, ending up as editor of four titles, I became an associate lecturer at LCC in January, 2012, teaching InDesign, effective writing and subbing for first year BA journalism and BAJ sports students.

I hold a professional qualification in journalism and fashion writing.
