Like any other journalism role, sub-editing is demanding and requires constant attention to detail whilst working under pressure. In addition to ensuring information is factually, legally, and grammatically correct, a sub-editor can hold responsibility for the layout of a story on the page.

This course will teach you how you can use Adobe InDesign to make news pages and sub-edit current news stories. You learn how to present news from the perspective of somebody, who is editing the news, taking the latest trends and technology into consideration.

Tutor information

After many years in local newspapers, as reporter, production editor, group chief sub-editor and editor Stephen Rayner now works as a sub-editor for two national newspapers.  For three years he has also been an associate lecturer in newspaper production and sub-editing to MA students at the London College of Communication.
