Infographics work visually - conveying complex information instantly and persuasively. This course is great for anyone who works with data-sets, whether large or small, and is looking for effective new ways to present them on the page or on a screen.
Whether you're working on a professional presentation or a personal project, communicating your findings is often faster and more compelling with an infographic. This introductory course offers an overview of the data visualisation process –how to understand the dataset, brainstorm different angles the data may allow, frame the story in visual form and tailor it to your audience to maximise the impact of your design.
- Introduction to data visualisation
- Understanding data
- Looking at data from various angles
- Framing data for the target audience
- Visualising data
- Maximising design
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Understand the creative journey that turns a raw set of data into a compelling infographic
- Collect, synthesize and understand data
- Identify relationships and develop an appropriate framework for your argument
- Design an inspiring and stimulating infographic story
This course is taught through a tutor-guided workshop. The session is made up of general and more in-depth, or technical, presentations. You will look at and discuss a number of examples of info-graphic story telling from posters to interactive web-platforms to animations.
You will then take part in hands-on tasks to apply the principles and learning covered in the introductory elements, and discuss the work completed as a group, refine and develop it collaboratively. This is not a technical course, after completing the course you may want to take a course in digital software design to bring your ideas to life.
Who Should Attend
You do not need any previous design experience. You may work with data for policy, business or campaigns. It is also great if you are a designer or develop who works with data and information graphics.
Follow Up Courses
After you have completed this course you may want to explore the world of printing with Design for Digital Print or learn the Adobe Illustrator: Fundamentals of Graphic Illustrations.
