This course will be a fun introduction to typography and printing. You will have the opportunity to explore typography and create your own typeface. You will also have printed at least one t-shirt with a phrase or message using your own unique typeface.

Please note this course is suitable for you if you are applying for further study at London College of Communication, but does not guarantee entry.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course you should be able to:

  • Understand typographic design and practices
  • Understand about contemporary typography applications
  • Create your own typefaces
  • Be confident in printing on t-shirts.

Who Should Attend
This course is suitable for you if you between 16 – 18 years old and are interested in design, graphics and print. The typeface will be designed and cut by hand, so, no prior computer skills are needed.

Level
Beginner: You do not need any previous experience.

Tutor information

Ella McCartney completed a Fine Art MA at the Royal Academy of Art and a first class degree in History of Art and Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Ella has exhibited her work Nationally and Internationally.

She has recently delivered learning experiences at the University of Cambridge Museums, Design Museum, Tate Modern, Saatchi Gallery and University of the Arts London. She works as a lecturer in the UK and Europe. 



Materials

Students will need to bring in note sketch books and pencils or pens.
