- Basic camera menus and settings
- Using a tripod
- Setting the camera so that it fits you
- Setting up the view finder
- Black Balancing (where applicable)
- White Balancing
- Manual Aperture
- Zebra and Peaking Functions
- Framing and shot size composition
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Understand and use filming terminology
- Understand the basics of video camera operation
- Go out and get footage that is in focus, exposed correctly, and framed in manner that would work in a production

Andrew Kuchanny has been working as a Director of Photography on various projects over the last decade, after graduating with an MA in Video at Middlesex University.
His experience ranges from commercials, to News, promos, and through to feature films that he has worked on both in the UK and abroad. Some of this body of work has been nominated for awards, such as a Gold Promax, a Bronze Creative Circle and New Media age of Effectiveness award for The Hunting Moon.
During his career he has shot campaigns for Channel 4, BBC, Red Bee Media, Strongbow, The National Theatre and Universal Macann among various other clients. His work with Sony’s XDCAM HD format was used by Sony as an advertising case study in Televisual when the format was released.
Andrew has written and taught courses on lighting, camera operations, and editing for the duration of his career, and feels that it is important for the next generation of filmmakers to get as much help and information as possible. “In this industry we never stop learning, and should never be afraid to share our experience or ask for help.”
