What is behind some of the world’s most popular electronic music? This course explores the foundations of electronic music and how the software Ableton Live has revolutionised the sound of popular electronic music. You will gain a deeper understanding on how to use Ableton Live to experiment with electronic music and create your own song from scratch. 

Through a series of workshops and group activities you will cover key topics that will advance your skills of using Ableton Live and gain knowledge of the interface and functionalities of the software.

By the end of the course you will be confident in using Ableton Live to produce your own songs and experiment with musical ideas, making you one step closer to uncovering the working life of producers DJs.

Tutor information

Andrew Davidson has experience of a range of disciplines including sound, moving image, visual communication and 3D. He studied Sound Arts and Design for Visual Communication at London College of Communication. Whilst studying he began working at the College and currently works in the 3D Workshop. He has worked in events, freelanced and was the co-founder of the The Loft Studios (a recording, production, and training studio based in South Wales). He has also completed a Postgraduate Certificate at UAL. He co-founded the artist’s collective thickear and recently co-founded 22 Degrees to publish a range of sound, music, and video work.
