Induction project

Welcome to Central Saint Martins, BA Performance Design & Practice. This set of notes was put together by a few of the current students. These are things that we were told or wish we had been told at the start of our first year. Feel free to come and ask questions if you want help when you arrive.

This pre entry summer project is given to students before they join the BA Graphic Design course at CSM. The project prepares them for study on the course and is brought along on the first week of term to support the students getting to know each other. As the focus is on the Journey from home, it also presents a really good opportunity to discuss the many places and cultures that the students have come from in preparation for working together in the future.

This summer project is sent to students in July to complete before they join the Illustration course in early October. It forms the basis for discussion, feedback and getting to know one another exercises in the first days of term. Students put their work up in the studio and are asked to use post-its to comment on each others work. These can be positive remarks, suggestions for improvements (always couched positively) and questions about technique, style, creative process etc.
