Modual: Mumbai

4 - 15 September 2017

Are you passionate about pursuing a career in the creative industries? Have you ever wanted to start your own company? Our free digital workshop in September will help give you the skills you need to make it happen.

We're looking for current students or graduates in India to take part in Modual: Mumbai, a free digital workshop run by UAL and The British Council. Over the course of two weeks in September, we'll be bringing students from London and creative people from India together in one Mumbai studio.

The brief? To develop a project that can change the world.

What it's all about

At Modual: Mumbai, you'll arrive armed with nothing but a laptop, and leave two weeks later with a fully-fledged digital project, along with a new global network of friends and collaborators.

Working in small teams, you'll embark on a creative journey with people from different disciplines and backgrounds. Together, you'll:

  • Receive technical training from UAL's Professor Fred Deakin along with his team of professional creatives
  • Experience what it's like to work in a professional studio environment
  • Get your hands on the latest digital methods and tools used in creative studios around the world, such as Slack and Fuze
  • Learn from industry experts, getting specific feedback on the project you create.

At the end of it, you'll have a real, working project, and the chance to pitch it to industry representatives. The project you develop will depend on your interests. We'll give some guidance and pointers, but you'll have your own ideas about the world-changing project you want to bring to life, and we'll encourage you to make this vision a reality.

You can see some of the projects that have been developed during previous workshops on our Previous Modual projects page.

Workshop structure

Over the course of the intensive two week period, we'll help you explore your creative purpose and develop your ability to collaborate with other people of different creative and cultural backgrounds.

During the first week:

You'll participate in a series of practical exercises that'll help you develop your creative thinking ability and understand the power of collaborating with your fellow participants. You'll experience presentations and talks from leading industry experts, and have the opportunity to talk to them, asking any questions you might have. Each day of the workshop is different, and will introduce you to practical techniques that you can apply in your studies and working life beyond the classroom.

During the second week:

You'll be working with your fellow students to create your own innovative projects that will change the world for the better, with regular mentorship from our leading industry experts along the way. You’ll progress and refine your ideas, creating inspirational outputs that will demonstrate the potential of your project to a wider audience.

At the end of the second week you'll present your project to a live audience of creative industry leaders, peers and investors.

This workshop is designed to give you insight and experience of working in an agency environment. The exercises are intensive and each day builds from the last, so it's not possible to take part unless you're able to fully commit to being at every session. Each day begins at 10am and finishes at 5pm.

If this sounds like something you want to be involved in, apply now by following the instructions in the 'Get involved' section below.
