One-to-One Advice on Finding Accommodation

Not sure how and where to start? You are welcome to drop-in for a chat on how to find accommodation in London. We recommend you do this especially if you are new to London and have never rented accommodation before.

If you are not yet in London you can also email us on private.accomm@arts.ac.uk with your questions on how to look for accommodation.

Contract Checking Service

If you are not sure about your contract you can bring it in for a contract check before you sign. We can read through the contract with you and explain how accommodation contracts work. We can also tell you if there are any clauses that should be taken out or amended and help with drafting amendments. We can also advise on how to negotiate with landlords and agents.

Legal Advice

Most students are happy with their private accommodation, but some students do have problems. Our Accommodation Adviser can help with a range of housing issues, including contracts, problems with your landlord, your accommodation (or with the people you live with), and deposit returns. The adviser is not a lawyer but does have knowledge of relevant housing law, has experience of dealing with these issues and keeps up-to-date with developments and new legislation.

To ensure you get appropriate advice and help with your particular problem, we may also refer you to other advice services. We co-operate with University of London Housing Services and may recommend you see one of their advisers for assistance and input from their housing solicitors. In some cases we may also recommend getting the local council services involved.
