James Clark is a Acting Course Leader for Executive MBA and Senior Lecturer in buying and merchandising for a number of courses at London College of Fashion. He is the author of Fashion Merchandising: Principles and Practice (Palgrave).
James Clark has lectured in buying and merchandising since 2007 and prior to that worked in numerous roles within UK fashion retail businesses such as Debenhams, Viyella and House of Fraser, with his last substantive position being that of Head of Merchandising. He has consulted with a number of brands including Gant and House of Fraser.
Since joining UAL, James has taught on the BSc (Hons) Fashion Management, MSc Strategic Fashion Management, BA (Hons) Buying and Merchandising courses. As part of his academic work he has supported undergraduate students throughout their studies and is an established final year dissertation tutor.
In addition to these activities, James has worked on behalf of the university in several countries including China, Korea, India, Russia, Dubai and Panama. He has also published his first academic book, Fashion Merchandising: Principles and Practice, to support his teaching and research interests.
The buying and merchandising specialism requires students to experience both practical and theoretical learning and James blends lectures, seminars and workshops into his teaching, something that is common within the Fashion Business School. This blend of learning, coupled with the School's location in central London, makes its offer unique and this enables many students to move on into successful careers as buyers, merchandisers and supply chain managers. James continues to be inspired by the constant changes seen within fashion businesses and quick to recognise the impact of these changes on his teaching.
