Biography

Carmen started a Brand Consultancy in September 2014, advising clients on Creative Direction, Visual Identity, Global Luxury Fashion & Lifestyle Brand Strategy with strong focus on Digital Communication and Events. Alongside her business and career ventures, Carmen graduated with a BA in Fashion Management at LCF in 2001 and is a regular guest speaker at university programs.

Could you introduce yourself and your current role?

My name is Carmen Haid and I am a Brand Consultant and Fashion Curator, based in London.

How did you get to where you are today?

By being focused, passionate, proactive, working hard and being fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time. You create your own opportunities.

What were your biggest challenges along the way?

To wear several hats at the same time

Why did you choose to study BA Fashion Management at LCF?

London was the only place in Europe to offer a management degree specialised in fashion at that time. It gave an invaluable insight of learning about the business of fashion. Highly qualified teachers with industry know-how led and inspired the course and program.

Did you find London inspiring?

London is an incredible city: Multi-cultural, full of talent, culture, art, great opportunities and a constant creative buzz. Everything is possible, very inspiring!

Tell us about an average day at your job?

There is no such a thing as average in my profession. In short, to make things happen and to help others, to ensure everyone is happy.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I have so many! Watch the space.

What’s an ideal weekend for you?

At the moment it is a get away with my loved one in nature and serene tranquility.

What is your top tip for people who want to get into roles like yours?

Be focused, flexible and open minded, ready to roll up your sleeves, be reliable and passionate of what you do.

Three words all Brand Consultants should live by…

Think out of the box, be global and have a good dose of common sense.

What’s the most important thing you wish you had known when you started out?

That everything you do is for a reason - Life is a journey!

In your opinion what are the Do’s and Dont’s of advising big brands?

  • Only work with brands that excite you
  • Be discreet and honest, people hire you for your thoughts
  • Do observe – know when to act and when to pull back
  • Be strategic – everything you do should have a goal
  • Don’t compare - Treat every client with fresh eyes
  • Don’t work for free – you do have a value
  • Have fun! If you are not having it, just don’t do it.
