This course challenges students by equipping them with a solid grounding in fashion management theory and practical approaches to a wide range of areas in the fashion industry. It encourages students to become leaders and innovators in the business of fashion.

Introduction

The highly reputable BSc (Hons) Fashion Management course, aims to prepare you for a successful career in the complex and competitive global fashion industry. 

This course will challenge you by equipping you with knowledge and skills in product planning, brand management, sustainability, supply chain, business analysis and financial accounting, retail and marketing. It will encourage you to become leaders and innovators in the business of fashion.

This course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). 

You will have an opportunity to personalise your learning by following one of two subject paths in Year 2. This will enable you to focus on your preferred specialism developing high levels of knowledge supporting your future career path.

The course includes thought-provoking discussions into the macro environment, promoting creative thinking and strategic planning. Graduates of this course are highly employable, and have gained roles within the industry with leading companies including luxury brands, high street leaders and online businesses.

What to expect 

  • The curriculum emphasises financial literacy, data analysis and the application of statistical models as a means to solve problems and make informed decisions. 
  • You will develop a solid grounding in both theoretical and practical approaches to fashion business, buying, merchandising, supply chain and marketing as well as financial and leadership management skills. 
  • You will gain an appreciation of the significance of responding effectively to the constant changes and challenges in global supply and demand.  
  • You will develop entrepreneurial skills and focus on innovative business models.
  • Throughout the course, you will be guided to apply the underlying theoretical principles of fashion management to the fashion industry. 
  • You will develop communication skills through report writing, blogs and presentations. 
  • The course provides an approach to learning that encourages you to work independently and creatively whilst enabling you to develop confidence in becoming a reflective independent learner, strategic thinker and decision maker. 

Work experience and opportunities 

You will have the opportunity to enter external competitions, such as the PRME Essay competition.

After successful completion of stage 2, you can undertake a Diploma in Professional Studies: Industry, with a Work Placement or Diploma in  Professional Studies: Enterprise. This provides increased industry awareness as well as crucial experience and valuable contacts within the industry. Recent placements have included ASOS, Levis, Ted Baker, Jimmy Choo and Dr Martens, as well as placements abroad in Europe, New York, Australia, India and Hong Kong.  

Mode of study 

BSc (Hons) Fashion Management runs for 90 weeks in full time mode. It is divided into 3 stages over 3 academic years. Each stage lasts 30 weeks. 

Climate, Social and Racial Justice

We are committed to developing ethical Fashion Business practices. To achieve this, we are working to embed UAL’s Principles for Climate, Social and Racial Justice into the course.

Course units

Year 1

The units you will study in Year 1, Stage 1, Level 4 are as follows:

  • Introduction to Fashion Management (20 credits)
  • Management and Economics (20 credits)
  • Marketing Management (20 credits)
  • Accounting and Finance (20 credits)
  • Product Management (40 credits)

Year 2

The units you will study in Year 2, Stage 2, Level 5 are as follows:

  • Responsible Management (20 credits)
  • Marketing Path: Fashion Futures (20 credits) and Brand Management (20 credits)
  • Product Path: Sustainable Design Management (20 credits) and Supply Chain Management (20 credits)
  • Consumer Insights & Analytics (20 credits)
  • Enterprise Management Project (40 credits)

Optional Diploma Year

Industry DIPS

This optional diploma can be taken between years 2 and 3. With support from your tutors, you’ll undertake an industry placement for a minimum of 100 days/20 weeks. As well as developing industry skills, you’ll gain an additional qualification upon successful completion.

Enterprise DIPS

This optional diploma can be taken between years 2 and 3. With support from your tutors, you’ll undertake an enterprise placement year where you will explore a business idea from proposal to minimal viable product (MVP). As well as developing enterprise skills, you’ll gain an additional qualification upon successful completion.

CCI Creative Computing

Between years 2 and 3, you can undertake the year-long Diploma in Creative Computing. This will develop your skills in creative computing alongside your degree. After successfully completing the diploma and your undergraduate degree, you’ll graduate with an enhanced degree: BSc (Hons) Fashion Management (with Creative Computing).

CCI Apple Diploma 

Between years 2 and 3, you can undertake the year-long Diploma in Apple Development. This will give you an opportunity to become an accredited apple developer alongside your degree. After successfully completing the diploma and your undergraduate degree, you’ll graduate with an enhanced degree: BSc (Hons) Fashion Management (with Apple Development).

Year 3

The units you will study in Year 3, Stage 3, Level 6 are as follows:

  • Project Proposal; (20 credits)
  • Strategic Management and Leadership; (40 credits)
  • Fashion Management: Final Major Project; (60 credits)

A 20-credit unit is approximately equivalent to 200 hours of learning time, which includes a mixture of taught time, independent study and assessment.

All students are entitled to a tutorial package that consists of:

  • one induction tutorial (group);
  • tutorials with unit leaders and course leaders as available during open office hours;
  • personal tutorials to support your development over the course
  • an appropriate level of confidentiality.

Learning and teaching methods

The following teaching and learning methods are employed to support the integrated achievement of the course outcomes:

Certain approaches to learning are common to all courses in the Undergraduate framework; these include, group and individual projects, presentations and pitches, lectures, seminars and tutorials. All courses emphasise active participation and experiential learning, in combination with the development of research methods, data analysis and critical skills.

Projects play a fundamental role in the promotion of your learning and achievement of course objectives. You are supported during projects by tutors, academic support, language development and library teams. You will be given opportunities to learn with your peers. Many projects at LCF simulate professional development, commercial and industrial practice. Optional external study visits are available.

Open access facilities are available to all students and provide opportunities to work independently to consolidate skills and extend learning.

Stage 1 learning opportunities are fairly prescribed. During stages 2 and 3 there is scope for you to interpret and develop learning in individual directions working to your strengths and interests with a choice of paths in first half of stage 2. During your final year, guided by a designated tutor, you will select a Final Major Project appropriate to your individual interests and aspirations. There will be a greater emphasis on independent learning and the use of tutorial support.

Industry accreditations and support

Chartered Management Institute

BSc (Hons) Fashion Management is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). Students graduating with CMI membership may receive a CMI Level 5 qualification in Management and Leadership in addition to their degree, and will be awarded Foundation Chartered Manager (fCMgr) status.

Staff

Jenny Wilson is a lecturer in Retail Strategy, Innovation and Operations at the Fashion Business School. She first joined the teaching team at LCF in 2014 and spent 4 years working on campus, working predominantly with BSc Year 3 Fashion Management. Her initial background spans from retail management to consulting for recruitment firms specializing in premium and luxury retail projects. Her experience within talent management and operations has taken her as far afield as South Africa and as locally as her home city of Edinburgh. Since then, Jenny has been working as both a consultant and lecturer across the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. Her teaching has spanned several universities including those in the UK, Spain, China, and the UAE, predominantly at final year undergraduate and MSc/MBA level. Last September, Jenny rejoined the Fashion Business School permanently and continues to work from Dubai, teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts. When not teaching, she continues to work in a freelance capacity in both luxury retail recruitment and is a content creator in CMI material for PwC's Training Academy in the Middle East. She holds a MSc (Distinction) in International Fashion Marketing, an MBA (merit) in Global Business and a PGC in Academic Practice. Her research interests lie in Omnichannel retailing and the effects of increased digitilisation on organisational behaviour. She studies her PhD part-time and aims to publish her first research paper in 2022.

Kelly Darcy is s a Lecturer in Management: Retail Strategy, Innovation and Operations alongside beingan Associate Lecturer in the areas of Fashion Business, Psychology & Sustainability, Marketing, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the London College of Fashion and London Southbank University. Alongside her work, she also coaches entrepreneurs on a one-to-one basis. Kelly is part of an MBA in Sustainability Leadership where she campaigns for policy change and also brings sustainable practices into her own life and consumer behaviours. She also runs wellbeing workshops in fashion & body positivity and in 2020 started to run courses in starting a sustainable fashion business.She has worked as a fashion business consultant in the fashion industry for 10 years and across her client portfolio, Kelly also researches, coaches and is an experienced facilitator. Kelly is also an Associate Fellow with the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts (FRSA).

Kelly studied at LCF with a BA in Fashion Business and an MSc in Applied Psychology in Fashion, she hopes to make it a hat-trick with a PhD in Consumer Culture, which she aims to start over the coming years.

Dr. Karen Manville is a lecturer on the Fashion Management course at the Fashion Business School who's industry experience includes working with companies including Nails Inc, Harrods, L'Occitane and training with brands including Aveda, Decleor, Demalogica, Elemis and Guinot. She has been teaching at the UAL since 2005 during which she gained an MA in Education (2013).  Karen is currently in her final year of her PhD focusing on the benefits of canine assisted interaction on the mental health of HE students. She has presented her research at a number of conferences in the UK including Worcesters University: Seeds of Knowledge and British Psychology Society: Division of Health Psychology, and alongside her dog Elvis (more commonly known as Fathead) she had provided canine therapy for a number of years as part of her research for her PhD at Middlesex University.

Dr Affan Hameed joined the Fashion Business School at UAL in 2018 as a lecturer in quantitative methods. He obtained his BBA (distinction) with major in Finance at the Lahore School of Economics (2010), having studied under a four-year scholarship on merit. Thereafter, Affan completed his masters in Finance (distinction) at the Queen’s University Belfast (2011). In 2018 Affan was awarded a PhD. in Finance by the ICMA Center, Henley Business School at the University of Reading. He has interned in several roles such as operational analyst, investment analyst and accounts assistant at large financial institutions (JS Investments, Bank Alfalah, and Holiday Inn) and was also employed in the public sector as a statistical officer in Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS). Affan’s research interest lies in corporate governance and corporate finance. After his masters, Affan conducted hands-on lab sessions in Financial Econometrics at Queen’s University Belfast.  During his PhD., Affan gained three years of teaching experience in the following modules: Corporate Governance, Financial Engineering, Securities, Options and Derivatives, and Mergers and Acquisitions. Affan also worked in various financial institutions including the Mergers & Acquisition Department at Mercer, London during his PhD. Currently, Affan teaches the areas of Quantitative Methods, Research Methods, Corporate Finance and Risk Management, and Principles of Business.

Adrian Gauci is Lecturer in Fashion Management with teaching experience specialising in Fashion Marketing, Leadership, HRM and Strategy at leading universities in New York and London.  Adrian published articles in the Journal of International Business and Law and was CEO of the American Marketing Association chapter at Hofstra University in New York. Adrian also attended several academic conferences in the US and UK. He is also certified in public speaking by Toastmasters International. He led consultancies at  Merrill Lynch Centre and other enterprise software corporations in New York. Adrian run his own consultancy based in London and New York.  Adrian read a dual MBA with distinction in Management and International Business at the Frank G. Zarb School of Business in New York on full international academic scholarship. Adrian was also awarded a Master in Integrated Marketing Communications from San Diego State University and University of Malta. He was ranked on the Dean's list on both courses. Adrian was recently awarded a teaching excellence award from LCF for his MBA teachings and a Teaching Fellow Award from the LSE Management Department. Adrian led business development teams in New York and London and also works in industry consultancy projects. His hobby is portraits photography using analogue and having a drama degree is also acted in several motion pictures for international cinema release.

Ronit Zilkha studied fashion design in London, after which she launched her eponymous collection. Her unique designs, including inspired eveningwear and daywear, have been worn by members of the Royal family, celebrities, stars and fashion editors the world over, showcasing at London Fashion Week for 15 consecutive years. The Ronit Zilkha label achieved international recognition and success, as well as having eighteen independent Ronit Zilkha stores, and concessions in Harrods, Harvey Nichols, Selfridges and House of Fraser. With 27 years’ experience in the fashion industry Ronit is a Year 1 Tutor & Lecturer in BSc Fashion Management/MSc Strategic Fashion Management, MA Fashion Design Management, Grad Dip Fashion Management and BA Fashion Marketing courses, leading masterclasses, lectures and workshops whilst contributing to curriculum development.

Dr Lan Wang is lecturer in Economics and Finance at the Fashion Business School. Lan is a member in Centre for Business and Climate Change at University of Edinburgh Business School. She has been completed PhD in climate finance at University of Edinburgh, MSc in Carbon Finance from University of Edinburgh (2013), and MSc in Corporate Finance from ICMA Centre, University of Reading (2010). Lan had two-year financial industrial working experience at Bank of China and participated in consulting and research projects granted by World Bank and British Consulate Guangdong General in China. She also gained teaching experience in the modules of Principle of Finance and Energy Finance during her PhD. Lan research interest is in green finance, sustainable investment, climate policy, and carbon market design. She has published on Journal of Environmental Science and Pollution Research in carbon market efficiency.

Toyin Laketu is the Product and Supply Chain Management Lecturer at the Fashion Business School, working across undergraduate and post graduate programmes.  Toyin has a Masters in International Business and has been teaching across business and fashion disciplines since 2019.  She has completed her PG Cert in creative education and holds a Fellowship of Higher Education Academy.

Toyin has over 14 years’ experience of working with UK leading fashion, retail, and creative businesses, focusing on business development, marketing, and international strategy.

She has worked to promote the UK creative industries and fashion across Europe, Asia, Middle East, and the US and has delivered new business success and partnerships for brands, such as Cath Kidston, Marks and Spencer, Christopher Raeburn, Alex Monroe, Debenhams and many more.

Toyin has worked in partnership with organisations such as British Fashion Council and UK Fashion and Textiles Association and many others, working on Government initiatives to increase UK businesses export activity in new markets.

Dr Cigdem Gogus is an experienced academic, marketing practitioner and researcher, with a background in sales, business development and entrepreneurship. She has an MBA in e-business (City University Business School, London) and a PhD in Consumer Behaviour - Marketing (Henley Business School). Her expertise lies in consumer behaviour, e-commerce, digital marketing, and start-up’s. Cigdem has taught across a wide range of marketing topics at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has overseen countless Master’s dissertations. She has in-depth knowledge of marketing theory, research methods as well as broader theoretical knowledge of social sciences and business management. Her work experience includes; market research, merchandising, sales and business development, starting and running a successful e-commerce business. Cigdem regularly attends academic and business conferences run by: The Association for Consumer Research, Market Research Society, Association for Qualitative Research and ESOMAR.

Fran Sheldon, Lecturer in Fashion Management (Sustainability). Fran holds a BA in Design for Performance: Costume, and an MA(Dist) in Fashion Promotion & Imaging. Teaching qualifications include a PGCert in Creative Education, and professional recognition as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Fran has taught globally at leading fashion schools in the subjects of retail data analytics, fashion technology, and sustainable development for fashion and retail. Fran has provided research and analysis for successful Fashion Revolution campaigns (‘Who Made my Clothes?’ and ‘Fashion Transparency Index’), including compiling their Influencer learning pack for their ‘#HAULTERNATIVE’ campaign. Fran is Chair of the Education Committee for Fashion Roundtable, and contributing writer to their Informer publication. Prior to working in Higher Education Fran was Head of Education at EDITED (Retail Data Analytics) and designed and launched the online education platform and accreditation for fashion retail professionals to encourage accurate retailing, and data lead decision making. Whilst at EDITED Fran worked closely with companies like John Lewis, Fitflop, and Farfetch, and continues to speak and write about big data in fashion at retail industry events like Magic, Top Drawer and Pure, and for publications like Fashion United and WWD. Fran is the UK Research Lead for the ‘Give (back) credit to the heritage communities project’ proposed by the Give Back Credit social activist network. The project seeks to address the pervasiveness of cultural appropriation in the global fashion industry, by protecting endangered knowledge, local supply networks, and heritage crafts vital to our sustainable fashion future.

Sonia Vega-Pérez, Lecturer in Product Management. Sonia’s academic background is in Marketing and Communications and Fashion and Luxury Business Management, having studied at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, as well as University of Oxford and UAL. ​For the last 10 years, Sonia has worked in multiple industries and markets for brands of the likes of ASOS, Google and Farfetch. She has extensive experience in Brand and Business Strategy, and a strong expertise in Ecommerce and Digital Marketing. Sonia is Fellow of the RSA. Since 2020 Sonia studies for a PhD at UAL on Consumer Culture within Fashion and Aesthetics, researching on trends and cultural movements.

Serena Gossain teaches on luxury brand management, branding and marketing at FBS, on the BSc and MSc programmes in Fashion Management as well as guest lecturing at other leading arts universities.  Luxury brand management is a specialist subject area that Serena has been engaged with for over 8 years. Serena has an MA in Visual Communication from Central Saint Martins, a PGCHE and is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  Serena is an accomplished creative professional with over 25 years of experience in branding, design and advertising. Her industry background working within advertising and design agencies, provides a strategic appreciation of the power of brand communication, positioning and marketing.  Serena has created successful campaigns and branding concepts for clients in the UK and USA.  Serena also works as a freelance art director/branding consultant and is based in West London.

Dr. Meghna Godya, Lecturer in Data Analyics and Finance Meghna was recently awarded her PhD in Management, Finance, and Accountancy from King’s College (2022), with a thesis entitled “The Competing Effects of State and Private Support in the Field of Cultural Production: Resource Sustainability, Dependence, and Innovation in the English Theatrical Sector.” Prior to which that completed a MSc International Financial Management from Queen Mary, University of London (2016) and a BA (Hons) English from Goldsmiths, University of London (2015).​ Previously worked at King’s College Business school as a Graduate Teaching Assistant with a focus on modules such as Strategic Management, Advanced Research Methods, Entrepreneurial Finance and International Accounting and Finance. Further to this, worked as a research assistant on numerous diverse projects within KBS, ranging from Co-Production and Co-Governance to Impression Management. Overall, research interest focus on the areas of the financial stability, resource dependency, and viability of the cultural arts sector. In addition, holds an Associate Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy (2020).​

Tanya El-Khatib, Lecturer Research Methods​. Currently a PhD (Fashion Management and Marketing) researcher at the University of Manchester exploring the adoption of Fashion Rental. Graduated with Distinction in Strategic Fashion Management integrated MSc from London College of Fashion, UAL. Teaching and research experience is in social science research methods as well as supervising Final Major Project dissertations. Industry experience in sales, operations, and logistics across a number of London-based fashion brands.

Julia Redman, Lecturer in Fashion Management. Julia owns and manages retail buying and sourcing consultancy Buyers Eye, empowering brands, retailers, suppliers and licensees to maximise their potential. Julia’s work is centred particularly around improving and developing her clients ethical and sustainable credentials both within their business and throughout their supply chain. She is a former Head of Buying, with over 30 years diverse buying experience, and also lectures at the Fashion Retail Academy in London. ​ She started her career at BHS. She has since worked in the buying departments of Arcadia Group, Marks and Spencer, Woolworths, Debenhams and M&Co, buying private label, licensed and branded clothing. Julia’s global sourcing experience includes  men’s, ladies and children’s clothing, and home accessories, managing the process from planning to production and on to the British high street.

Eleanor Rockett is a graduated with distinction from MA Fashion Design Management at LCF and holds a first-class LLB Law Degree. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and her research focuses on optimising intellectual property management to create innovative business models for fashion brands. Eleanor is a Lecturer in Fashion Law at LCF and also works as an Intellectual Property Educator across UAL. Previously she has worked as a Researcher in Digital Fashion at the Royal College of Art and a lecturer on the MBA at London Business School. She has industry experience as a business consultant with clients going on to win British Fashion Council NEWGEN and stocking in Selfridges, Harrods and Farfetch. She has worked as a strategist at a number of fashion technology start-up companies that have been featured in WWD, Forbes and Vogue Business.

Home fee

£9,250 per year

Entry requirements

The standard minimum entry requirements for this course are:

One or a combination of the following accepted full level 3 qualifications.

  • A Level Passes in at least 3 subjects to total a minimum 112 UCAS tariff points. Preferred subjects include, Maths, Business Studies, Economics, Science, Humanities and Modern Foreign Languages;
  • IB Diploma 25 points;
  • Distinction, Merit, Merit in BTEC Extended Diploma;
  • or equivalent EU or non-EU qualifications;
  • and Passes in at least SIX GCSEs at grade B (6) or above including English, Maths and a Science reflecting the course rationale and Business and Management Benchmarks statement (QAA, 2019).

APEL (Accreditation of Prior (Experiential) Learning)

Applicants who do not meet these course entry requirements may still be considered in exceptional cases. The course team will consider each application that demonstrates additional strengths and alternative evidence. This might, for example, be demonstrated by:

  • Related academic or work experience
  • The quality of the personal statement
  • A strong academic or other professional reference
  • OR a combination of these factors

The course team seeks to recruit students who can demonstrate:

  • A strong interest in the different roles of management within the fashion industry

Step 1: Initial application

You will need to submit an initial application including your personal statement.

Personal statement advice

Your personal statement should be maximum 4,000 characters and cover the following:

  • Have you got any work experience that might help you?
  • Have any life experiences influenced your decision to apply for this course?

Step 2: Interview

You may be invited to an interview following our review of your application. All interviews are held online and last 15 to 20 minutes.

Communicating with you

Once you have submitted your initial application, we will email you with your login details for our Applicant portal.

Requests for supplementary documents like qualifications and English language tests will be made through the applicant portal. You can also use it to ask questions regarding your application. Visit our After you apply page for more information.

Visas and immigration history check

All non-UK nationals must complete an immigration history check. Your application may be considered by our course teams before this check takes place. This means that we may request your portfolio and/or video task before we identify any issues arising from your immigration history check. Sometimes your history may mean that we are not able to continue considering your application. Visit our Immigration and visas advice page for more information.

External student transfer policy

Alternative offers

If your application is really strong, but we believe your strengths and skillset are better suited to a different course, we may make you an alternative offer. This means you will be offered a place on a different course or at a different UAL College.

Deferring your place

You must apply in the year that you intend to start your course. If you are made an offer and your circumstances change, you can submit a deferral request to defer your place by 1 academic year. You must have met your conditions by 31 August 2024. If you need an English language test in order to meet the entry requirements, the test must be valid on the deferred start date of your course. If not, you will need to reapply. Requests are granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Careers

All of our undergraduate courses are concerned with the development of your personal and professional skills. On your course you will evolve from learning basic skills in your discipline through to a position where you are an independent creative thinker capable of making an effective contribution to the relevant sector of the fashion industry. Personal and Professional Development (PPD) skills are embedded in all units on every course. Speaker programmes with contributions from alumni, members of industry and others are a part of many courses, as are work placement opportunities in industry.

Graduates who wish to continue their education at postgraduate level are encouraged to progress to suitable courses within the College, the University or elsewhere.

Career paths

Recent graduates are working in a variety of roles in areas such as Sustainability, PR, Marketing, Buying and Merchandising, as well as digital engagement. They have secured roles with companies such as Burberry, FarFetch, Harvey Nichols, Zalando, Matches Fashion, Christian Dior, Harrods and Tom Dixon. We have many students who have gone on to secure success with their own brands and labels, the most recent being Rixo, who were celebrated in Drapers ’30 under 30’ awards.
