This makeup course teaches you the creative techniques of the professional makeup artist, and gives an insight into the fashion and editorial makeup industry. You will learn practical and professional skills, and design creative fashion and editorial makeup styles.


The course includes:

  • The role of the professional makeup artist
  • Preparation of the model
  • Natural beauty makeup
  • Strong advertorial make-up accentuating cheek bones, lips and correcting face shape using contouring
  • Selection of bases and skin finishes
  • Application of false eyelashes, strip and flare
  • Current trends in editorial, couture and ready-to-wear makeup
  • Working with designers to a brief
  • Blocking out of eyebrows and facial adornment for catwalk and editorial makeup purposes
  • Whitening the skin for high impact imagery
  • Changing the eye / lip shape
  • Introduction to body painting


Our makeup courses take place in our makeup studios housed within our Lime Grove site in West London.


Level:

This is a beginner level makeup artist course. You should have an interest in the subject area and a desire to learn but no previous experience is required.


Booking:

Your course place is confirmed once you have booked online or via the phone using a credit or debit card. There is no deadline for booking. Places are offered on a first come, first served basis, and all courses have a maximum number of students. We suggest you book early to avoid disappointment.


MAC Cosmetics:

As part of your course, you will receive an invite to a MAC Cosmetics discount shopping session which will enable you to purchase MAC products at discounted price. The shopping session may take place either during your course or in some cases the following week or weekend.




Tutor information

Sam Walker has been working in the make-up industry for over 10 years. She trained at London College of Fashion and then started her career with Make-up Forever, Paris. She has worked in fashion, beauty, film, theatre and weddings. Her editorial work includes features for Vanity Fair, Tatler and Flux (to name a few). She has worked as a bridal make-up artist for many years, which has included doing the make-up for the Duke and Duchess of Kent's daughter Davina's wedding at Kensington palace and Roger Taylor’s brides make-up, who is a band member of 'Queen'.  Sam has also collaborated with the late Isabella Blow and Philip Treacey. She currently works with photographers such as Gisela Torres, the burlesque dancer Immodesty Blaize and works for MAC cosmetics in the UK. She also combines this with tutoring at London College of Fashion on various short-courses and regularly delivering seminars for the industry.

Lucy Gibson’s makeup work spans the fashion, celebrity and commercial industries, where she spends a lot of her time working with music artists in particular. Past celebrity clients include the likes of Rita Ora, Haim, Marina and The Diamonds, Katy B, Kelis and many more. Her work has appeared in the pages of Vogue, Tatler, Marie Claire, Wonderland and Dazed and Confused, while commercial clients range from Vivienne Westwood to Nike. So far her career has taken her from backstage at Glastonbury to Moscow’s Red Square, as well as Fashion Weeks in London and Paris where she has assisted the likes of Alex Box and Lucia Pieroni. Lucy also runs the makeup blog for makeup artists at MascaraWars.com and loves having the opportunity to meet and teach the makeup artists of the future at LCF!



Ruth Brophy graduated in ‘Make up for Film, TV and Theatre’, a course covering all aspects of working in film and television including prosthetics, wounds, body painting and tattoo work. She now works freelance on fashion editorial shoots, advertising campaigns and fashion week shows and has worked with photographers including David Bailey, Rankin and Nick Knight. Ruth also works in television and specialises in tattoo and body painting. Her magazine and newspaper commissions include Closer, Company, Dazed and Confused, Esquire, Elle Japan, Grazia, Huffington Post, Home & Garden, Hello, Harpers Bazaar, id Magazine, Marie Claire, New York magazine, Notion, Oprah magazine, Sunday Independent Style, Sunday Times Style, Tatler magazine, Vogue British, Vogue India, Wallpaper*. Ruth was recently Head of Design for fashion photographer Elaine Constantine's first feature film Northern Soul.

Materials

Please bring the following items with you to each class:

  • Your own mascara
  • Makeup remover/cleanser, and moisturiser
  • Headband
  • Notepad and pen

A professional brush set from beauty supplier Fero will be available to purchase at the first lesson at a subsidised cost of £75 (approx. retail cost £150 - cash/credit card only). This covers the minimum amount of brushes required to complete the course.
