Outreach work at LCF

UAL Insights - three student stories from Outreach work at LCF.

London College of Fashion - Outreach - Spring School 2016

Skin Deep, a project with students from east London schools and led by LCF alumna Katrin Rees.

London College of Fashion works with young people in partner schools and further education colleges in Greater London, whose parent(s) or guardians have not completed a university degree.

At London College of Fashion we believe that widening participation to art and design higher education is essential to nurturing the artists and designers of the future.

Together with our colleagues at Chelsea, Camberwell and Wimbledon, Central Saint Martins and London College of Communication we are the Outreach team, collaborating to make art and design education an open and accessible opportunity for all.

We work with young people in partner schools and further education colleges in Greater London, whose parent(s) or guardians have not completed a university degree. We support students to apply and progress on to our courses or other courses within the University.

Our innovative programmes aim to inspire and develop creative potential. We call this work UAL Insights.

Our focus at LCF

Many young people who have the potential to do well in higher education, but those whose parents have not been to university, have less access to information about applying and about the benefits of higher education. We want to work with these young people and challenge any perceptions that university might not be for them and get them excited and invigorated by fashion education.

Regardless of whether we are working with School or FE college, with students on our sites, or as part of community programmes, our activities promote exploration and experimentation. We hope taking part will better prepare prospective students to know what suits them, their style of learning and what they will enjoy most.

Finally, it is not just important to get students onto a course, we want to ensure students who progress through our programmes to study here are supported and perform to their best ability; and after graduating they have a successful and flourishing career in the industry.
