The Wallace Collection: Products For The Gallery Shop

Creating a beautiful collection of products for the gift shop.

The beautiful and historic Wallace Collection, in central London, asked the college’s BA Fashion Illustration students to design illustrative gifts to be sold in the gallery shop.

The students were briefed to take inspiration from specific parts of the Collection and create corresponding products that would sell well in the shop, appeal to a younger market, and perhaps attract a different audience to The Wallace Collection. The resulting collection of umbrella designs, tote bags, plates and notepads were a great success and instigated a second collaboration with LCF, working on an exhibition looking at the Collection's extensive armoury. The exhibition was timed to coincide with the London 2012 Olympics.

LCF’s ongoing partnership with The Wallace Collection illustrates perfectly how student talent, and the professionals guiding them, can take an established brand and mix heritage with energetic innovation to produce creative and commercially successful results.

"Working with the students has been really enjoyable; they enable you to look at The Wallace Collection with fresh eyes"

Anita Richardson, Retail Operations and Front of House Manager, The Wallace Collection

"We have been so impressed by the commitment and professionalism that students have shown to our project. They displayed real amazement by the wealth of detail in the Collection’s works and art and discovered wonderful features which they have turned into imaginative ideas. Their presentations would have impressed any employer."
