‘LCF Couture by Carmen Hair’ - A fashionable celebration of 40 years.

To celebrate their 40th anniversary, Carmen Hair, part of the Remington portfolio of brands, teamed up with London College of Fashion to design and launch a limited edition styling collection, ‘LCF Couture by Carmen Hair’. Carmen and LCF worked in partnership with Boots, who had an exclusive option on the products and the range was launched in their central London flagship store. The ‘LCF Couture by Carmen Hair’ range allowed Carmen Hair to target their products at a younger, more vibrant, customer and was a highly visible way for the brand to celebrate their 40 years.

Run as a competition, BA (Hons) Fashion Illustration students were invited to create a design and packaging to re-release two of Carmen’s most iconic products. Students were briefed and encouraged to mix creative flair and business savvy. Exploring logos and graphic identities, many of the Illustration students found a new direction for their work and discovered new applications for their illustrative talents.

Twelve designs were shortlisted and after a rigorous judging process by the Carmen Hair team and representatives from Boots, the winner chosen was second year student Aurora Alyssa Patag, whose design features heavily stylised figurative fashion illustrations.

The result was a beautiful and fun range, taking Carmen Hair’s heritage and putting a fashionable twist on the iconic products, enhancing their already mass appeal and introducing Carmen Hair to a new customer.

“I wanted to create something that really stood out in-store. Sometimes when you see products without their packaging they don’t really stand-out – I wanted both to be memorable: the product to really catch people’s eye and the packaging to draw attention and make the whole shopping experience more exciting.”
