St Giles Trust Coffee Cart
LCF Social Responsibility have partnered with St Giles Trust, supporting their work in our local community by hosting a coffee cart staffed by ex-offenders at our Curtain Road site.
St Giles Trust is a charitable organisation working with disadvantaged people and ex-offenders, supporting them to move their lives forward, through employment, skills development and training.
BREWBIRD coffee cart is a social enterprise run by St Giles Trust, staffed by ex-offenders, who are trained onsite as professional baristas, bringing artisan coffee and cake to our Curtain Road campus.
BREWBIRD – ‘Coffee with a conscience’
St Giles Trust believe that given a chance, anybody can turn their lives around and their experience shows that an ex-offender in the workplace will be loyal, trustworthy and will work hard to maintain their employment. This social enterprise puts reformed ex-offenders at the heart of the solution, training them to use their skills and first-hand experience to help others through peer-led support.
David, a Barista trainer at Brewbird says:
“That's the best bit, when you're working with the clients (the ex-offenders) and can see their confidence increase with the training. It's what makes the job so worthwhile... so enjoyable."
The response from students and staff to the new coffee cart has been overwhelmingly positive:
“It's so nice to get your coffee from a friendly face. I'm hooked!"
“The cakes are great, amazing to get this quality on campus."
