Red Mansion Foundation

The Red Mansion Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes artistic exchange between China and Great Britain through exhibitions, publications, the Building Bridges exchange programme and the Red Mansion Art Prize.

Their vision is to encourage mutual cultural understanding through contemporary art with an aim to creating a dialogue between East and West, providing opportunities for people to communicate, celebrate cultural diversity, and further their understanding of each other.

Red Mansion Art Prize

The Red Mansion Foundation believes in supporting young British artists and offering them the opportunity to broaden their perspectives and develop their work through the experience of a different culture. To help achieve this aim and promote artistic exchange between China and the UK, The Red Mansion Art Prize was established in 2002.

An exhibition of work by the winning artists will be on display at the Lethaby Gallery, Central Saint Martins during the University's CHINA NOW week.

The Prize is open to postgraduate students from seven of the foremost art colleges in the south of England. Every year each college shortlists students from which a panel of distinguished judges selects a winner. This year's winners are:
· Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design: Sergio Cruz
· Chelsea College of Art & Design: Janko Matic
· Goldsmiths College: Helena Hans
·
The Royal Academy Schools: Petros Chrisostomou
·
The Royal College of Art: Daisy Richardson
· The Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art: Nathalie Guinamard
· The Slade School of Fine Art: Emma Wolukau-Wanambwa

The seven winners travel to China during the summer for one month, where they will live and work alongside local artists and create a diary of their experiences. The resulting work is displayed in an annual exhibition in London, and it is hoped the diaries one day collectively will become an important archive.

The annual Red Mansion Art Prize Exhibition is an outstanding show displaying the talent of seven big art colleges and offering a preview of the next generation of up-and-coming artists.
